In-house training, the new way to study?

In-house training widens your pool of new employees, improves your employer image and keeps your employees happy. What more could you want?! We'll tell you exactly why this should be the next step in your recruitment policy.
Learning on the job
Young people today see education differently. Generation Z has a strong need for freedom, including when it comes to their development. Current education is often so rigidly structured that there's little room left for self-direction. That often brings a drop in students' intrinsic motivation. Education also takes little account of students' learning preferences or learning styles, which can differ enormously. More and more people prefer learning in practice. Great, because learning 'on the job' (in other words: training staff) builds a knowledge base in long-term memory.
Many employers are now seizing their chance and responding to this. When you offer in-house training, you're several steps ahead of the competition, and you have a better chance of filling open vacancies.
An ode to soft skills
The only thing you need to be open to as an employer is candidates who don't immediately tick every box. These candidates may not have the hard skills needed to do the job, for example, but they do have the soft skills. As an employer, you can train this type of staff too; hard skills can often be learned perfectly well on the work floor!
Compared with studying, learning on the work floor offers more room to respond quickly and effectively to new developments or technological innovations. That way, as an employer you not only get a new employee quickly, but one with specific knowledge who performs better in the long term too.

In-house training boosts your employer image
Employer branding and in-house training go hand in hand. Offering in-house training makes you more attractive than your competitors. And when you invest in personal development as an employer, employees feel more connected to the company. So if you care about your employer image, start as soon as possible! But how do you do it?
Start with a step-by-step plan
Select current employees who want to take on a coaching role. Discuss with them which soft skills starters should already have and which hard skills need to be learned, and put together a programme. Alternate between digital and physical learning. If needed, hire trainers who can teach employees in a targeted way. It's important to evaluate this process regularly so you can improve it. Did you know you can even apply for subsidies for offering in-house training?
Get started with in-house training!
More and more employers are switching to training their staff in-house. So are we. We even have a vacancy open for starters who want to learn the recruitment consultant trade in practice. So no qualification is needed, which hugely lowers the threshold for people who haven't completed a relevant degree but would love to become a recruitment consultant. Take a look, get some inspiration and get started!
