Strong SEO job ads are essential for a successful job marketing campaign. There's often more to it than you think. If you want to appeal to and reach your ideal target group, you'll not only have to put yourself in their shoes; you'll also have to keep Google's preferences in mind. With the tips below as a basis, we write your ideal SEO job ad.

1. The shorter, the better

Especially for trickier profiles, such as those in legal or IT, it can be tempting to cram as much information as possible, like daily tasks or requirements, into the job ad. After all, in these cases there's more information than for, say, a vacancy for an operator or order picker. Still, it's important to keep your SEO job ads short. Because whether your target group is carpenters or developers, with a text that's too long everyone loses interest at some point. And that would be a waste of all the blood, sweat and tears you put into your text!

2. Step into the reader's shoes

Besides the length and content of a text, its tone of voice also has to appeal to the reader. If we start from your ideal target group and so also look at things like education level and age, adapting the language becomes a piece of cake. If you're looking for a service engineer, think like a service engineer too! Imagine what kind of words (long and difficult, or short and simple?) that engineer would use to describe a certain concept. Language that readers would use themselves is also what will appeal to them most. So put yourself in the shoes of the type of person you're looking for: age, lifestyle and profession. It doesn't hurt to dig into the relevant jargon.

3. Make your job ad SEO-proof

Perhaps the most important part of writing a successful job ad: SEO! These smart techniques are often the icing on the cake, because however well written and fitting your text is, if it isn't found on Google, it won't be read either. And just as the earth revolves around the sun, a strong SEO job ad revolves around the right (number of) keywords! So take into account the terms your target group would use in a search, link within your own website and externally, and think about alt text for the images you use.

Tools

Both Google Analytics and Google Search Console are free to use. With these tools you can measure how well your web pages score, and you get tips on how to improve your pages to push that score up. In any case, start by taking a baseline measurement of your website. Free tools are a good start, but if you want to tackle your SEO really professionally, you can also invest in a tool such as Semrush.
