How do you find the best marketers in a digital world?

Marketers are in huge demand these days. Finding the best marketers may be the goal of many organisations, but their search often turns out to be unsuccessful. They often search hard, but not in the right way. On top of that, many companies still recruit the old-fashioned way and also keep their marketing recruitment in-house. In this blog we tell you exactly how to find the best marketers for your company.
The perfect marketer
So what does the perfect marketer actually look like? The answer is simple: he or she does not exist. What is perfect for one employer is a terrible fit for another. Still, you can have an ideal picture of a marketer. Think, for example, about how much work experience someone has, or which hard and soft skills you think he or she should have. Perhaps you want your new colleague to be very creative, or rather highly technical. It is smart to keep these wishes in mind when you go looking for new staff for your marketing department.
Because the idea of 'the best marketer' is different for everyone, every search is different too. So you are probably not just looking for someone different from your competitor: if you let your wishes come through precisely enough in your recruitment messages, you will probably also attract a different target group.
How do you attract marketers?
Marketers generally differ from other target groups in several ways. So it can be quite an art to catch their attention online, for example with a job marketing campaign, and convince them to apply. Still, there are certain things you can pay more attention to in your recruitment to find the best marketers.
Innovation
From innovative projects to new marketing strategies: most marketers find it all interesting. So is this something that comes up a lot in your organisation or in the work of the person you are looking for? Then do not shy away from highlighting it in your marketing messages and job ad.
Development and building a career
Many marketers are incredibly ambitious. Their field keeps evolving, so they want to keep up with it. By naming concrete examples of the training someone can follow or the specific growth opportunities on offer, you make the possibilities more tangible for your target group. So make it specific, and do not stick to vague terms like "career development opportunities".
Company culture and freedom
A company culture in which freedom stands out can be a strong pull factor for marketers. Many marketers like being given free rein in their creative thinking process. A somewhat more relaxed company culture, without strict rules and lots of micromanagement, also appeals to many marketing professionals. You can showcase this well through an employer branding campaign.

Your options when recruiting marketers
As an organisation, you can go two ways when you want to recruit marketers: you can search for someone yourself, or outsource your recruitment. More and more companies are now choosing to outsource their recruitment.
Searching yourself
Most organisations start their search themselves. However, they often soon discover that they have underestimated both the amount of work and the investment. They also often lack the knowledge to find and hire (the right) candidates. Hunting for new colleagues yourself can work out well, but only if your organisation has enough manpower and recruitment knowledge in-house.
Outsourcing recruitment (partly)
Fortunately, for organisations that do not have (enough of) this knowledge and manpower in-house, there is the option of outsourcing recruitment. These days, for example, you can choose to run a job marketing campaign or employer branding campaign through a recruitment agency. You can also outsource following up on candidates to a recruitment agency through interim recruitment.
It is also possible to purchase individual services, such as a photo or video shoot, an SEO job ad, a landing page or a complete careers website. These elements strengthen your campaigns. Great photos and video footage, for example, give a clear picture of the working atmosphere, work location, colleagues and the content of the role. So you can put that to good use in your marketing messages!
