We want to fill vacancies, so why are we still so picky?

Filling vacancies can be quite a challenge. Especially since many employers are still looking for the purple squirrel, the perfect candidate who ticks every box. But how realistic is that when you really need people? We researched the recruitment behaviour of Dutch companies.

This is what Pro Contact's research shows

The finding: employers remain picky. A quarter won't hire an applicant who has had burnout, has a disability or has been out of work for a long time. People with autism or a chronic condition, ex-offenders and former addicts also often don't stand a chance. That doesn't make your recruitment strategy much stronger. Fortunately, Noud Baijens, founder and director of Pro Contact, remains positive: “The group refusing to hire candidates with a blemish on their record used to be much bigger.”
