All recruitment videos at a glance

Static images are so last season! 86% of business owners already use video to put their company in the spotlight in a dynamic way, and that number just keeps growing. Video can also be a smart tool when you're looking for new colleagues. But which type of recruitment video suits which goal, and where do you start? We've put it all together for you, so you can add your ultimate video to your recruitment strategy.
Which type of recruitment video suits my goal?
There are several ways to recruit staff with video. In general we talk about 3 types of recruitment video: an employer branding video, a vacancy video or a mood (impression) video. Although the end goal of all three is the same, namely recruiting new staff, each recruits with a different motivation. Below you'll read all about the differences between these videos and find out which type best suits your recruitment goal.
Employer branding video
What does your company stand for when it comes to work and work culture? What is your mission and vision? What defines your company? The answers to these questions make up your company's DNA, and that's exactly what you want to get across with an employer branding video. That way you can appeal to people who share your company's culture and values. And whether you go for interviews with employees or follow a script: the most important thing is that the message stays clear from start to finish.
Make sure you focus on candidates, not on customers (your customer proposition is better covered in a different video, not in a recruitment video). Want to get across that the door is always open, lines are short and the structure is flat? Then don't (just) put the manager on camera, but colleagues from different corners of your company. They'll confirm the message in their own way.
Done? Keep the employer branding video under 90 seconds, or, if you really have a lot to say, under 120 seconds. Put the recruitment video on your careers page under the “about us” or general section.
Vacancy video
Want to fill a specific role in your company? Then a vacancy video is what you're after! In a video, the enthusiasm of current employees, but also the content of the job, often comes across more clearly than in a job ad. That way a vacancy video can strengthen your job marketing campaign. Values and work culture can take more of a back seat here. You base the video on all the knowledge and skills that come with the role. Take a look at ours!
Ask an existing employee what he or she does in the role, and what makes the work fun, challenging or varied. Which tools do they use? Which project are they most proud of? What makes them enjoy coming to work? An honest story told in a natural way is the most convincing, so a script is a no-go for this type of recruitment video. Choose an employee who can talk about the job with passion and genuinely enjoys working at your company. Don't be afraid to mention a few downsides as well; they add to the sincerity of the story. In moderation, of course, you don't want to put the emphasis on them.
Is your video finished? Edit it to between 60 and 90 seconds and put it in the vacancy on your careers page. That way it strengthens your SEO job ad.
Mood video
A mood video (as the name says) shows the atmosphere at your company. In it, you show (just) enough to spark the viewer's curiosity. You show what's coolest about your company, without going too deep into the content. Think of impressive machines or robotics, for example, but also colleagues having lunch or laughing, Friday afternoon drinks or a legendary team outing.
So a mood video is a nice addition, but it doesn't stand that strongly on its own: it can feed into the decision to apply. With great footage or statements from employees, this type of recruitment video can give a candidate just that extra push. Combine short clips of 1-3 seconds to make a mood video of no more than 30 seconds. That gives the video a good pace and keeps the viewer's attention. Put it on your careers page where visitors land and on your socials and ads to ‘lure’ people to your careers page.
