Glass specialist Scheuten from Venlo has been working with Pro Contact for some time: from sharp job marketing campaigns for hard-to-fill vacancies to a serious employer branding boost, including a photo and video shoot that finally gives Scheuten’s story the face it deserves. The result? Many more applicants.

The challenge

We spoke to Loes Vergeldt and Job Laumans, HR Business Partners at Scheuten, about what made the partnership so successful.

“Our careers page looked fine, but it was missing a story”

Job leads employer branding and works on it with marketing colleague Amber. Scheuten did not have to start from scratch: its careers page was already there and looked good. But something was missing: a story that sticks, and visibility, especially among a younger audience in the region.

The approach

“Quick to act, and they simply get us”

As the point of contact for the job marketing campaigns, Loes works closely with recruiter Sam. What struck her most? The pace. “I don’t have to wait endlessly for replies; no sluggish back and forth, just quick action. On top of that, candidates are followed up incredibly fast, and that is exactly what makes a partnership so successful.”

But there is another reason the partnership works, Loes believes. “Pro Contact really understands our organisation. Candidates who speak to Sam quickly feel they are talking to someone from Scheuten itself rather than an external agency.” The result is candidates who are not only right on paper, but who genuinely fit Scheuten. “Skills can usually be learned,” says Loes, “but the click has to be there.” And that click is what makes the difference in the long run: less drop-out, a more stable team, and people who stay.

A story that didn’t come out of nowhere

The partnership got under way. Creative sessions with the management team and interviews with employees produced an EVP and a slogan that didn’t come out of nowhere: “Let your curiosity do the work.” Spot on, because in glass you learn the trade on the shop floor, not from a book.

Photos and videos as the finishing touch

To give that story a face, the team went into the factory in Venlo for a fully equipped photo and video shoot. Four employees with different career stories took part: from a German process operator who started as a temp and now has a contract with Scheuten, to a former intern who now holds a management position. A Junior Account Manager who has grown further within Scheuten and Job, who once started as an intern and now works as HR Business Partner, also share their stories.

A long day, but worth it, says Job: “It went very naturally and gradually, and produced beautiful images. For example, we use striking reflections of employees in the glass.” No more outdated stock photos, but fresh, original imagery that can now be used on the careers page and in the campaigns.

Let your curiosity do the work.

The slogan came out of creative sessions with the management team and interviews with employees. In glass, you learn the trade on the shop floor, not from a book. In the photo: Loes Vergeldt and Job Laumans, HR Business Partners at Scheuten.

The result

And it works: the first employer branding campaign ran for sixteen weeks and led to a substantial rise in applications, something that simply putting a vacancy online has long stopped achieving. Website traffic also rose enormously, with a large number of visitors coming straight from the employer branding campaign. The new images went down well within Scheuten too. At the time, they were not only seen online, but also offline on the streets in the region.

Two tracks, one strong brand

At Scheuten, job marketing and employer branding come together nicely: one makes sure the right people are on board quickly, the other makes sure Scheuten comes across as an attractive and recognisable employer. Both continue, with regular meetings about content and results, so that Scheuten’s story stays sharp and up to date.

At Scheuten Glas, job marketing and employer branding together made the difference.

Skills can usually be learned, but the click has to be there.
